This hedge trimmer goes through shrubs and bushes like a hot knife through butter. Amazon had the lowest price and shipping was very quick. My only complaint is that the box the trimmer was shipped in was badly damaged and I needed to straighten out the trimmer blade because it was bent. I didn’t think I needed to over react, so I straightened out the blade without too much trouble and the item works great.

I purchased mine in May 2006 and it worked fine on my boxwood hedges, which are about 60 feet long and don’t have any larger branches. I trim them once per year. It worked fine again last year (2007), but this year it started slowing down to the point where it was useless for cutting the hedges.

I called Black & Decker and they confirmed it was just out of warranty and I would have to have it serviced. Of course, for a $70 trimmer, they know I’m not going to bother.

Before you buy, consider this: you probably won’t be using it year-round, which means a 2-year warranty is essentially useless if you get a bad product. I believe this model, and perhaps all Black & Decker electric trimmers, may fall in this category.

I will never purchase from Black & Decker again.

It does an excellent job. Cuts like a hot knife through butter. My other trimmer, "Crafttsman ‘best’" always "gnawed" at the branches leaving frayed edges. I particularly like that the Black and Decker can also be called upon to do delicate trim work as well as heavy twigs. Completely satisfied.

In the end I was very pleased with the result and encourage you to consider this route to your dream bathroom.

I was right about the rarity of the one-stop bathroom-remodeling contractor. Lets face it, there are a lot of skills required and it’s hard to see how one person can be a master of them all. On the other hand none of it is rocket science and anyone determined enough to put their mind to it can do a very reasonable job of it all.

After a lot of searching for names and referrals I chose 3 possible contractors and asked them to quote. I found the pin boards in many bathroom showrooms to be a valuable resource in finding contractors, as many of them will leave a card there for you to pick up.

I asked them all for references so that I could go and see some of their work and talk to their clients. This is an important and very reassuring step that can help to ensure that you don’t end up with a rogue who runs off with your money.

I was surprised at some of the negative comments about this wrench. First of all, it seems to me to be as effective as the equivalent manually adjustable "crescent" wrench — with the emphasis on adjustable. There are some rare times when an adjustable wrench won’t do and an exactly size open end wrench from a set of wrenches may be necessary. In those cases, this wrench won’t do the trick any more than a manually adjustable crescent wrench will.

But lets talk of the 97.98% of cases where an adjustable open-end wrench is just what is wanted and needed. Here’s one that adds something useful — it adjusts wider and narrower at the touch of a button. Well, a spring-loaded momentary-on rocker switch, actually. Convenient for your thumb — doesn’t matter whether you’re right-handed or left-handed — there’s this rocker switch. Press one end of the switch and the wrench width opens up. Press the other end and it closes up. It doesn’t take much practice to get the hang of it, and in an instant you can resize the wrench to fit your application.

My first use the other day involved replacing the fill-valve inside my toilet tank. Where I needed a wrench was to loosen the supply tube’s hex nut — you know the one, it holds the bottom end of the water supply tube to the shut-off valve that comes out of the wall below the tank. I also needed it to tighten the same nut when I installed the new tube. It did the job admirably. Yes, my old manually adjustable crescent wrench would have worked, but that takes a bit more effort to get the wrench jaws to the right diameter. With this battery-operated wrench, the adjustment was performed in an instant with the push of the rocker switch with my thumb, and without trial and error.

I’ll be using this wrench a lot in the future, no doubt about it.

Yes, the grip is a bit bulkier because of the rubber coated battery compartment that forms the grip on the handle, and the handle is a bit wider than a manually adjustable wrench. But it was actually more comfortable for me, perhaps because I have fairly large hands. (I suspect that people with small hands might find a manually adjustable wrench with a slimmer handle better for them.)

Anyway, the other thing is, this is a fun wrench to use, too, a nice toy for people who do handy things. Well worth the $24 and change, I find.

Got one for Christmas, used it for one project, installing gas lines in the basement. Wrench fell off the ladder and that was it, no more auto wrench.

The good part, returned this to a B&D store, they sent me 3 wrenches as a replacment.

I’ll be more careful with the replacements, but, this is not a regular tool, have to be careful with it.

I would not have bought this myself, nothing beats a good Craftsman open end wrench. I’ll find a use for it.

Based on another horse owner’s review of this product from a few months ago and how much I love my big five gallon Bucket Boss organizer, I purchased two Bucket Boss Parachute Bags, one for each horse. At first, they seemed a bit on the small side, but when we got through loading them up, my daughters were very impressed.

The bags are not very deep, and I thought this would be a detraction. It turned out to be a big plus because if you have ever used a bucket or a plastic cleaning tote for a grooming kit, you know that the amount of stuff that winds up on the bottom is really astounding … peppermint wrappers, horse treat crumbs, multiple hoof picks, pulling combs, riding gloves, hair elastics and clips, etc, etc. Although I won’t say I NEVER find anything unusual on the bottom of these bags, they tend to not fill up with detritus. The Parachute Bag has nifty side pockets for small grooming aids and larger compartments for brushes, hoof, coat and mane products, sweat scraper… anything you could possibly need to groom a horse. They are also wonderful to take in the trailer to shows or clinics. To top it off, they are DURABLE in the extreme. If you were to buy a similar product expressly made to be a grooming kit, you could add another fifteen bucks to the cost.

If you have a horse or pony, get yourself one and use the plastic thing for cleaning day!

I really like this set, and for the price (I paid fifty bucks on Amazon) you can’t beat it! Only four stars because the flashlight could be brighter.

I used the saw to trim some posts on my picket fence, and the driver has come in handy numerous times. The flashlight is a pretty weak compared to my other LED flashlights, but it’s not bad.

It’s about what you can expect from light duty cordless power tools and at a very decent price. The battery system is pretty nifty, and a LOT more powerful that the old Flex-Charge or whatever it was that Black and Decker had several years ago for their interchangeable battery system.

I’d recommend this to my friends, for sure.

I did not buy the starter kit, just the handsaw which came with one charger and one battery. The saw is actually very handy and it has good run time off of the one VPX battery. I use it primarily to cut holes in drywall instead of my DeWalt rotary cut-out tool. It’s much neater. The back and forth movement of this handsaw’s blade allows the drywall dust to basically fall downward while the high-speed rotating action of the cut-out tool hurls it about in all directions.

Although the sawblade has a tendency to bounce a bit, once you get the hang of holding it at the correct working angle and letting the saw do the work, it performs smoothly. And, with a little practice and the right blade, you can successfully make plunge cuts into softer material like drywall and thinner material like 1/8" pressboard.

I use special inexpensive drywall jigsaw blades that ACE Hardware sells. Their blades are shorter - an important consideration when cutting holes into drywall - and the teeth make a good, quick and clean cut in the drywall itself with minimal edge tear out. On several occasions, I have used a metal cutting jigsaw blade to cut through some metal shelving and also an aggressive wood cutting jigsaw blade to quickly go through firring strips.

The toolless blade change feature is simple and quick. The combination of the two switches required to make this saw operate can be a bit tiring to deal with at times but having only one trigger with no safety in place could be disastrous. So, it’s a necessary and worthwhile inconvenience.

If you’re looking for a handy saw for light and/or occasional cutting jobs, check this 7.2V VPX handsaw out. It’s a very good compromise between a manual keyhole saw and an electric reciprocating saw.

The driver has plenty of punch, and is easy to use. plus the lith -ion power stores well. B & D missed the chance to hit a home run by not having a clutch — it’s too easy to stip screw heads. Also, a light would help. Switching seems stiff and cheap, but servicable.
The saw is all but useless for me. I cut just as fast in metal using a hand held hack saw (really!). Same with wood. Hand tool was faster. Way too little power, alhtough it’s a handy shape and easy to change bits. This isn’t a home run. It fact, it barely makes it to first base.
The light is impressive. Light weight. Seems to run forever, and throws pretty good light.
Also, they could give you the darn set free and still make money on the batteries. I’ve already bought two extras @ $20 each. And where is that carry case? B & D, to whom I’ve been a loyal customer, had half the right ideas and missed hitting the nail on the head in several key areas. Overall, I would not recommend this to others.

This is a great set. I was able to buy it for less than the price of a replacement battery for my old drill driver. It is light in weight but great in power for household use. I added the converter and have used it with my cell phone. I plan to add all of the VPX tools and another battery in the future.
