Youre told to take vitamins, drink plenty of water, get a good nights sleep and exercise, but has anyone ever told you that the design of your home and office can impact your health? You wouldnt be alone in raising an eyebrow and questioning how this could be so, but thousands of years ago, the ancient seers of India spent entire lifetimes observing how man-made structures impact humans beings. Their findings were compiled into a body of knowledge called Vastu Shastra.

In Sanskrit, Vastu means science and Shastra means architecture. It is from this environmental science that some of the worlds most enduring structures were created.

According to Vastu, all five elements in nature (earth, water, fire, air and space) are in perfect balance. When we build, this delicate balance is disrupted, which can cause a wide range of physical problems from poor sleep to major illnesses.

You might have experienced this if youve ever remodeled or moved into a new home and suddenly your health got worse for no apparent reason. If you work with the natural laws inherent in the universe rather than against them, you can align these five elements to your advantage. This is what Vastu Shastra is all about, and the affects on your health and well-being can be dramatic.

We have worked with clients all over the world using this powerful architectural science. We hear wonderful stories of how Vastu has changed peoples lives. Health is one of the top challenges people come to us about. We find that there is always some reason for the problems they are having that becomes apparent when we do an environmental analysis, either of their residence or their place of work.

Heres just one example of how directly our environment can influence our lives: A Boeing executive who lives in the Madison Park neighborhood was living with the consequences of diabetes, which had compromised his health to the point he was on dialysis. He was growing weaker from multiple, unsuccessful operations before we performed a Vastu analysis on his home.

Our consultation showed major imbalances in his living environment, which contributed to his health problems. After making the changes needed to rectify this situation, both he and his wife reported that his health had improved, he was stronger and that they both felt an enhanced sense of well-being.

As a part of this earth, we live in a sea of electromagnetic and stellar influences. Every shift produced in the atmosphere has the potential to affect our actions and emotions. Every particle of energy in the universe is linked to the next particle. Nothing happens in a vacuum. We are all striving for balance and this cannot take place when there is environmental stress.

Stress comes when there is clutter, poor layout or design, lack of light, improper air circulation or when the environment is not aligned with true North.

When the environment is out of balance, you can experience a lack of energy, back problems, mental instability, stomach problems, learning disabilities, emotional imbalances and financial difficulties.

Unfortunately, most modern architecture is based on function alone and is not designed in harmony with the forces of nature, which influence our health, happiness and overall well-being. When our environments are designed to conquer nature, there is no question we will feel stressed. The beauty of Vastu is that it specifically balances living and working environments without costly structural changes and does it in ways that can improve the quality of our lives.

Carpet is an extremely expensive investment to make. You can spend thousands of dollars to re-carpet even an average sized house. Besides money, you will also spend lots of time choosing the right kind of carpet and the perfect color but how much time have you spent to make sure that it lasts. This article contains a few tips to help you make your rugs last.

The single most important thing you can do to make your carpeting last is vacuum it on a regular basis. This is also probably the most neglected step in carpet care. By vacuuming your carpet, you will be removing dangerous soil from your rugs. Soil that would otherwise wear and abrade the carpet fibers every time you step on it. If you do nothing else to increase your carpet life, vacuum.

Another great way to protect your carpeting is to place entry rugs wherever your carpet meets hard surface. This will give your family and friends a place to transfer soil to before they walk on your rugs. Place the rugs on the hard surface and not the carpet. if you place it on the carpeting, you might get a soil line around it.

A third method of protecting your carpet is to rearrange the furniture often. it is not as easy as the other methods but it pays big dividends. By moving furniture around you change the way traffic flows through the room. This keeps you and your family from wearing out the same exact area of carpet. You instead spread the wear around.

Lastly, have your carpet cleaned often. Do not wait until it is too dirty to look at any more. Set yourself up on a cleaning schedule where you clean it at regular intervals. If you wait too long, stains will set in and your carpet will become irreversibly worn.

These may seem like small things for you to do but they can greatly improve the lifespan of your carpet. So take the time to take care of your carpet and you will get years of enjoyment out of it.

Customer Reviews

Review date : 2008-06-05
I really like this set, and for the price (I paid fifty bucks on Amazon) you can’t beat it! Only four stars because the flashlight could be brighter.

I used the saw to trim some posts on my picket fence, and the driver has come in handy numerous times. The flashlight is a pretty weak compared to my other LED flashlights, but it’s not bad.

It’s about what you can expect from light duty cordless power tools and at a very decent price. The battery system is pretty nifty, and a LOT more powerful that the old Flex-Charge or whatever it was that Black and Decker had several years ago for their interchangeable battery system.

I’d recommend this to my friends, for sure.

Review date : 2008-04-21
I did not buy the starter kit, just the handsaw which came with one charger and one battery. The saw is actually very handy and it has good run time off of the one VPX battery. I use it primarily to cut holes in drywall instead of my DeWalt rotary cut-out tool. It’s much neater. The back and forth movement of this handsaw’s blade allows the drywall dust to basically fall downward while the high-speed rotating action of the cut-out tool hurls it about in all directions.

Although the sawblade has a tendency to bounce a bit, once you get the hang of holding it at the correct working angle and letting the saw do the work, it performs smoothly. And, with a little practice and the right blade, you can successfully make plunge cuts into softer material like drywall and thinner material like 1/8" pressboard.

I use special inexpensive drywall jigsaw blades that ACE Hardware sells. Their blades are shorter - an important consideration when cutting holes into drywall - and the teeth make a good, quick and clean cut in the drywall itself with minimal edge tear out. On several occasions, I have used a metal cutting jigsaw blade to cut through some metal shelving and also an aggressive wood cutting jigsaw blade to quickly go through firring strips.

The toolless blade change feature is simple and quick. The combination of the two switches required to make this saw operate can be a bit tiring to deal with at times but having only one trigger with no safety in place could be disastrous. So, it’s a necessary and worthwhile inconvenience.

If you’re looking for a handy saw for light and/or occasional cutting jobs, check this 7.2V VPX handsaw out. It’s a very good compromise between a manual keyhole saw and an electric reciprocating saw.

Review date : 2008-04-15
This set gets mixed reviews.
The driver has plenty of punch, and is easy to use. plus the lith -ion power stores well. B & D missed the chance to hit a home run by not having a clutch — it’s too easy to stip screw heads. Also, a light would help. Switching seems stiff and cheap, but servicable.
The saw is all but useless for me. I cut just as fast in metal using a hand held hack saw (really!). Same with wood. Hand tool was faster. Way too little power, alhtough it’s a handy shape and easy to change bits. This isn’t a home run. It fact, it barely makes it to first base.
The light is impressive. Light weight. Seems to run forever, and throws pretty good light.
Also, they could give you the darn set free and still make money on the batteries. I’ve already bought two extras @ $20 each. And where is that carry case? B & D, to whom I’ve been a loyal customer, had half the right ideas and missed hitting the nail on the head in several key areas. Overall, I would not recommend this to others.

Review date : 2008-04-06
This is a great set. I was able to buy it for less than the price of a replacement battery for my old drill driver. It is light in weight but great in power for household use. I added the converter and have used it with my cell phone. I plan to add all of the VPX tools and another battery in the future.

Review date : 2008-04-05
Very handy, performed like expected. Great for the small jobs.
As happy as I am with it,
just be warned not to expect a replacement for the full size type saw.

Cordless screwdriver works excellent & flashlight is good too.

I would recommend a 2nd battery to avoid pausing a project for the few hours it takes to re-charge from dead.

That is all.

Oh yes the fall is coming and its happening very fast. So what do you do to make your home a castle once again? Believe it or not it is the little things that make all the difference to your home.

Such little things as cleaning up around your house and pulling out the weeds is what can make your house look new again. There are also little tricks you can do with the grass to make it look perfect next year.

Now there is one thing to keep in mind here. If you are planning on a major home improvement project coming up soon you just may want to wait. Why spend all that time when it all may just be ripped up again. No body wants to do that.

However, if you are not planning on a big home improvement project anytime soon then you may want to go ahead and try sprucing up your home.

All it takes is a little know how and some good old fashioned work. After that you will be home free, well sorta.

Follow these simple tips and you too can transform you old looking house into a new looking radiating masterpiece.

1. Clean up around the flower beds a little. Flower beds always seem to attract stuff. And thats putting it simple. Clean all you can out of them and you will be pleasantly surprised.

2. Cut down some high bushes. Bushes and small trees that are close to the home can give a crowded look to your home. Stand back and try to visualize what thing would look like without them.

3. Cut low hanging branches from trees. Branches from trees that hang over driveways and walkways can again give a crowded look. Make sure you use safety first when trying to cut down anything.

4. Prepare the grass for the next year. Scotts has a great lawn product that you put on 4 times a year. Go to Wal-Mart and you can pick this up. Remember, if you have crab grass and other things in your lawn. Getting rid of them the year before will do the trick.

As you can see, this is a little spring cleaning in the fall. This and a few other things you can think of will make your house a new home again. It may take some time but you will be a happy camper.

Always remember its the little things that make the most difference. If you pay attention to them, you will have the home of your dreams in no time at all.

Home conservatories has become one of the modern day needs to maintain a pleasant living atmosphere and it is also one of the major facts considered for a peaceful and pleasant atmosphere. There are many ways of deciding the conservatories based on the peoples mentality and mind and it also gives the owner an opportunity to create the life he needs. So every care should be taken in choosing the right and relevant kind of conservatories for a sophisticated and thought provoking atmosphere.

The good thing about conservatory is it will give you enjoyment and liberty to your home. There are several styles of conservatories that are available for a person to choose based on his taste, mentalities and ideas. It may be of a general modern style or a traditional style or even a classical normal style. The major aspects for deciding conservatories depends upon the area that is going to be utilized, the legal approval, roofing styles and there are even much more aspects that will have to be taken into account before launching the project.

The drainage factors must also be considered since there should be no effluent wastes formed in the course of maintaining the conservatories, moreover the roofing types such as transparent roofing or translucent roofing will also have to be discussed and finalized. After deciding all the factors, then comes the brick work. The cost of the roofing may also be considered and based on the cost, we may even alter the roofing material such as PVC - U externally capped roofs or aluminum roofs and there are even other kinds of roofs to prevent the effects of sunlight. The next vital point to discuss after the roofing is the glass which is going to be incorporated for the roofing such as whether we are going to use any sort of energy efficient polycarbonate sheet which is normally a light weight or if we are going to us glass.

So on building a conservatory, we have to be very careful in determining the exact methodologies that we are going to use and also the material that we going to incorporate and in a nutshell, proper planning will pay fruitful results in building a conservatory. Our conservatory should be hugely attractive and should give a warm welcome whenever an outsider visits our house. So the bottom line is that a conservatory adds value only if it is designed and constructed well with proper planning and using right kind of materials.

Anglian Conservatories-The only company that have been awarded full BBA certification for our conservatories. Anglian Conservatories offers conservatories, garage conversions, replacement windows, replacement doors, garage doors, driveways, (drive ways), roof maintenance (cleanaroof), rooftrim (gutters, fascias, soffits and barge-boards), kitchens.

Our homes are our precious possessions to own a home for oneself is a goal many people aim for in life, even from childhood. After making a home for oneself and the family, it needs to be kept clean and well maintained. Home repair improvement plays a big role in the duties of owning a home. Home repair improvement is something that should be handled with care and planning. If not, the whole effort is going to be counter productive and it will require another phase of home repair to set everything right.

While embarking upon a whole series of home repair improvement work, do a bit of thinking on how you are going to do the things. There are hundreds of sites on the web suggesting tips about effective home repair improvement and there are contractors who boast themselves to be the final word in the art of home repair improvement. The point is, while hiring someone for the home repair improvement work, make sure that the person under consideration is a competent expert in the trade. After all, your home is a major financial asset and it is your duty to ensure that all home repair improvement goes well.

In home repair improvement plans, there will be a lot of contractors coming forward offering their expert services at varying rates. You could easily find the contact information of such people in yellow pages, news papers and TV and Radio. But in such cases, there is no way by which we could assess their credibility regarding their expertise in home repair improvement work.

The best rule of thumb is to check it with your friends, neighbors, or co-workers who have had home repair improvement work done. Ask them if they were satisfied with the end product and get the name of the contractor they used. Get written estimates from several firms and ask for explanations for price variations. Dont automatically choose the lowest bidder.

Depending upon the scope and size of the home repair improvement project you have, select a general contractor or a specialist. Design/Build Contractors provide one-stop service they see everything from start to finish. Make sure that the home repair improvement contractor you contact is reputable because not all contractors work ethically. Be aware of the following red flags your contractor offers you discounts for referrals; he just happens to have materials left over from a previous job; he only accepts cash payments; he pressures you for an immediate decision; he offers exceptionally long guarantees and asks you to pay for the entire job up-front.

Before hiring a home repair improvement contractor it will be worthwhile to ask him a few questions. Ask how long he has been in business, if he is licensed and registered with the state, if he has a list of references, if he has a portfolio the projects done recently and what type insurance he carries. Any flaw in any of these factors invariably proves the point that the home repair improvement contractor is a phony or works without a valid license.

Regarding the payment options in the home repair improvement work, make sure that you have an idea about the limit of down payment. Try to make payments during the project contingent upon completion of a defined amount of work. Dont make the final payment or sign an affidavit of final release until you are satisfied with the work and know that the subcontractors and suppliers have been paid.

Make it a point to make a written contract signed by both the parties before starting the home repair improvement work. See carefully that every term and condition is agreed upon and is free of any loop holes. Keep track of all the relevant paper work concerning all the activities done during the home repair improvement work. Before you sign off and make the final payment, ensure yourself that every detail and everything is in place and accounted for. Make sure that all standards have been met and you have relevant proof that all subcontractors and suppliers have been paid. Above all, walk around and see that the home repair improvement work has been done satisfactorily.

During or after the home repair improvement work, if you have any difference of opinion, try to solve it by speaking with the contractor directly. If you are not able to resolve at that level, contact State and local consumer protection offices, state or local Builders Association and/or Remodelors Council, the Local Better Business Bureau, Action line and consumer reporters or Local dispute resolution programs.

Amazon.com Review

Constructed of durable, rip-proof fabric, the new 56-pocket organizer from Bucket Boss improves on what was already a great idea. Unlike the toolboxes of old, the Bucket Boss organizer stores tools where they’re visible and easy to access. And, with 38 exterior pockets and 18 more on the inside, the Bucket Boss really does have a place for just about everything. We’ve loaded ours down with wrenches, handsaws, screwdrivers, hammers, pry bars, pencils, utility knives, pliers, and drill bit sets. There’s even a padded pocket for your cordless drill. We quickly discovered, however, that depending on how you load it, the Bucket Boss can get a little top-heavy. After ours tipped over in the back of our truck, we reloaded it with our hammerheads down, and it hasn’t tipped since. We recommend the Bucket Boss 56 for remodelers, carpenters, electricians, repair people, or any other professional who brings a lot of hand tools to the job; it also makes the perfect tool kit for do-it-yourselfers moving through the house from room to room and project to project. –Jon Groebner

Customer Reviews

Review date : 2008-07-31
As an apartment building owner I bought a bucket boss about 20 years ago. It worked well but finally sprouted some holes! I checked a few home-improvement stores but could find nothing comparable and certainly nothing at the price. A lot of puerile imitators! When I saw this on Amazon I thought it would fill the bill and it certainly does! More pockets, better organized. I even have a few left over! The best ever!

Review date : 2008-07-28
I just got one about a month ago and its exactly what I though it would be. I have turned a mess into an organized and easy to get to tool storage system. The best part about this bag its super easy to *keep* organized because I am not a neat freak on the job site nor do I have time to even attempt being organized, this does it for me. I have a tool in every pocket and it is a bit heavy to lug around but would go with this one rather then the extreme bag simply because the pockets are larger on the 56. The pockets aren’t over sized there just right. I toss this *free* in the back of my truck and it has not tipped over yet. One tip is organize your tools evenly so that its not hard to carry. I also bought the super stacker system with the bucket boss storage lid/seat and the lid doesn’t fit over this bag that well nor do the stackers! I also keep my drills in there own case that they come with and dont really think the drill pocket should be on the bag but I have some other tools in there so its not a big deal!

Review date : 2008-03-06
I waited until the 56-pocket Bucket Boss dropped below fifteen bucks from Amazon, then decided it was worth a chance. An excellent purchase.

Pro: Far superior to any toolbox. Everything (and I mean everything) is within sight and/or easy reach. It was humbling to put every tool I own into this and only fill half the pockets.

Con: H E A V Y. Yes, I loaded the bucket down with cordless drill, extra battery, two types of hammers, and a slew of tools. But that tiny handle makes the weight far more noticeable.

Review date : 2008-02-24
Because it’s easy to carry around and use, I found myself always putting tools up after I use them.

Now I can’t blame the wife, son or myself for losing tools. It has made me a lot more efficient around the house.

Two thumbs up!!

Review date : 2007-12-25
This is a great item. It makes storing and transporting a variety of your tools to any usage site an easy task. It keeps them organized and ready to go at all times. Tremendous item, used with an (otherwise) empty 5 gallon bucket. A top-notch gift for any ‘amateur’ handyman.

When I read one reader’s story about nailing a beam through the ladder rungs, and how her father cursed… and cursed, and cursed and cursed…

Well, I had to think of one day a few years ago… I was building a washroom by the back door, just around the corner from the head of the basement stairs. Really just a loo, you know, a 6X6 closet with a sink, vanity and toilet. It was all done, and none too soon, because I was just about out of steam and running real low on patience. This weekend project had dragged on into the end of next week, and very little had gone smoothly. Sometimes it’s like that.

Anyways, the plumbing and electrical were done; the walls were finally built, drywalled, tiled and trimmed, inside and out. The door was on, the floor was down, the sink was in, the lights were

up and the fan was on high! Only one detail remained unfinished. The toilet! The essence of the loo, the throne, the crowning glory! My wife was preparing to crack the champagne as I wrestled the big bowl into place and bolted ‘er down!

Now! The tank - two screws, a coupling and then a great, grand oak seat with real brass hardware. Oh boy, we’re gonna Christen this thing in about five minutes! Clunk? Clank, scrape, thud?

Whaaaat!!! There’s no room. Whadya mean there’s no room?! There’s no room - it doesn’t fit… @#%$*!! and of all the %#$%@&*!! I had somehow mis-measured, or missed my mark - the toilet flange was too close to the wall! I needed another 4 inches or so (pretty incredible, eh?) and I sure didn’t want to move the flange because, be damned if I was going to ruin that new floor!

So, I sulked for a couple hours in the cellar, swearing I’d never build anything again as long as I lived. And then, eureka! I know - I’ll frame a hole in the wall for the tank. Yeah! Yeah, that’s it - and I’ll trim it and paint it and then I’ll tell everyone that I did it that way to gain floor space. Great!

So, I cut a hole in the wall, lined and trimmed it, painted it and waited. I got up real early the next day and very calmly, and very resolutely, proceded to install the toilet. Clunk? Clank, scrape, thud? Whaaaat!!! It doesn’t fit! Whadya mean it doesn’t fit?! I built the *%&#$@!! hole in the wrong place!!

So, I sulked for a couple hours in the cellar …

Re-frame the hole, line and trim it, paint it, wait overnight, and yes - finally, the toilet fit! Let me tell you, when I sit on that throne these days; well, I get tired just thinking about it, but we do appreciate the extra floor space!
